Iranian media claims 7 US personnel killed on USS Abraham Lincoln
The report has not been confirmed by the US military and could not be independently verified, amid complaints about a 263-day deployment.
Iranian media reported that seven U.S. Navy personnel were killed and several others injured in a clash aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Tasnim said the disturbance broke out after an adviser to CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper boarded the ship to address crew complaints about the extended deployment. According to the report, the situation escalated from jeering and bottles being thrown into a fight among personnel involving knives and other sharp weapons. As of the report, the U.S. military had not confirmed the claim and it could not be independently verified. USS Abraham Lincoln was reported to have been deployed for 263 days, including 208 consecutive days at sea, and made a brief stop in Oman in July. The report came as families of the crew raised concerns about exhaustion, mental health and uncertainty over the return schedule for about 5,000 sailors and Marines.
