Mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, kills 9

New: police say eight of the victims were family members, while the 45-year-old suspect is believed to have died by suicide before officers arrived.

A mass shooting at a house in Erie, Pennsylvania, killed nine people, including the suspect, who is believed to have taken his own life before police arrived Friday night local time. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said eight of the dead were family members, while one other victim was a family friend. Among the victims were a pregnant woman and two children. Police have not disclosed the suspect's identity or the motive for the attack. Lorah said the suspect briefly came out of the house on Perry Street and shot two women who appeared to be frantically seeking help from neighbors, then was found dead on the second floor. Data from Gun Violence Archive show the incident adds to more than 400 mass shootings recorded in the United States so far in 2026.
