Martinez blasts Wilcox after Manchester United's 2-0 loss at Atletico
Why it matters: The outburst exposed wider frustration inside United as the club sits 13th in the Premier League after one win from six matches.
Lisandro Martinez publicly criticized Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox after the club's 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid, saying he expected more from the executive level and that United lacked a squad comparable to other top teams. The comments, made in a post-match interview with CBS, intensified scrutiny on Wilcox and the club's recruitment after a poor start to the season. The Guardian reported Martinez's view is shared by others in the squad frustrated with the summer window. United are 13th in the Premier League with one win from six games. Martinez, 28, is out of contract next summer, with the club holding an option for an extra year.
