Man arrested in Spokane wildfire as 700 buildings burn

What's new: Authorities charged a 37-year-old with first-degree arson in the Old Trails fire and set bond at $1 million.

A 37-year-old Spokane man was arrested on suspicion of starting the Old Trails fire, one of three wildfires that have torn through the Spokane area and forced more than 60,000 people to evacuate. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Aaron Farinacci and said he faces a first-degree arson charge. Sheriff John Nowels said a witness saw a man near the fire area acting nervously, and deputies later found Farinacci with waterproof matches and a butane lighter. The three fires, known together as the Spokane Complex Fire, had burned more than 10,000 acres with no containment as of Monday afternoon. Officials said at least 700 structures, including homes and businesses, were destroyed.
