Malaysia police probe officer tied to viral 'smelly' China video

What's new: The officer remains on active duty as investigators weigh disciplinary steps and possible legal action.

Malaysia's police force has opened a disciplinary investigation into an officer linked to a viral video showing Malaysian tourists in China making remarks widely seen as mocking local residents' smell. Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said June 23 that the personnel member will remain on active duty while the probe continues and could face further action if any law was broken. Local reports identified the person as Nur Asyiqin Mohd Dalil, a police member and social media influencer whose TikTok video was posted June 15 and later removed. The clip drew backlash in Malaysia and China. On June 20, Asyiqin posted an apology, calling the episode a spontaneous reaction and taking responsibility for the offense caused.
