Macron hosts Trump at Versailles after G7 summit in France

Why it matters: The dinner capped a calmer G7 and underscored Paris' push to ease strains with Washington over tariffs, Iran and Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron hosted U.S. President Donald Trump for dinner at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday, turning the former royal residence into a stage for post-G7 diplomacy. Macron and Brigitte Macron greeted Trump on the palace steps before the leaders posed for photographs. Trump had accepted the invitation during the Group of Seven summit in Evian-les-Bains and praised Versailles as "the real deal." The visit came after years of friction between Trump and European allies on tariffs, Iran and Ukraine, even as both sides described this week's summit as constructive and pointed to a joint statement on Ukraine.
