M6.7 quake in Sulteng kills 1, affects 312 residents
Sigi bore the heaviest impact, with 22 minor injuries and 13 serious injuries, while aftershocks continued.
A magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck Sulawesi Tengah on Tuesday morning killed one resident in Sigi regency and affected at least 312 people, or 110 households. BNPB data as of 19.00 WIB showed Sigi as the worst-hit area, with 272 affected people, 22 with minor injuries and 13 with serious injuries. Parigi Moutong recorded 40 affected people, or 21 households, while two residents in Palu city suffered minor injuries. The provincial government deployed heavy equipment, prepared emergency tents, logistical aid and a public kitchen. Governor Anwar Hafid instructed regional heads in Palu, Sigi, Donggala, Parigi Moutong and Poso to speed up evacuations and victim assistance. BMKG said the shallow quake was centered on land, 42 kilometers southeast of Palu, and had no tsunami potential.
