M6.2 quake shakes Kepulauan Sangihe, felt in Manado
BMKG placed the epicenter 198 km northwest of Tahuna at a depth of 10 km and said the quake posed no tsunami threat.
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook North Sulawesi on Tuesday (14/7) at 22:49 WIB, with the epicenter in the sea 198 kilometers northwest of Tahuna, Kepulauan Sangihe. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency recorded the quake at a depth of 10 kilometers. The strongest shaking was felt in Kepulauan Sangihe at III-IV MMI, meaning noticeable tremors inside houses. In Manado, Minahasa Selatan and Minahasa, the intensity was II-III MMI. BMKG said the quake had no tsunami potential, but residents were urged to watch for aftershocks, follow local authorities' instructions and identify safe areas around their homes.
