M4.8 quake shakes south of Sukabumi, BMKG: no tsunami risk

The epicenter was 79 km southwest of Sukabumi at a depth of 52 km, with no aftershocks detected by 15.40 WIB.

A tectonic quake shook the southern coast of Sukabumi, Jawa Barat, on Sunday (19/7) at 15.11 WIB. BMKG updated the magnitude from 5.0 to M4.8 and confirmed the event had no tsunami potential. The epicenter was offshore at coordinates 7.74 LS and 106.44 BT, about 79 kilometers southwest of Kabupaten Sukabumi, at a depth of 52 kilometers. BMKG said the quake was a shallow event caused by rock deformation on the seabed, with a shear-upward or oblique thrust fault mechanism. Shaking was recorded at level III MMI in Kota Sukabumi, Pelabuhan Ratu, Bandung, Cianjur, Cimahi, and Lembang, and at level II MMI in Soreang, Ciracap, and Bogor. By 15.40 WIB, BMKG had not detected any aftershocks.
