Le Pen can run in France's 2027 presidential race despite graft
New: a July 7-8 poll put her at 34%-36% in the first round after the political ban was reduced.
Marine Le Pen is now able to run in France's 2027 presidential election after a court reduced her political ban. The National Rally politician then declared herself a candidate and filed an appeal to the Cour de Cassation, a move that suspends the lower court ruling. In addition to the political ban, Le Pen was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended and one year under electronic monitoring, and fined 100,000 euro. She was found guilty in a case involving the embezzlement of more than 2.8 million euro in European Parliament funds. A Toluna Harris Interactive poll conducted on 7-8 July among 1,837 respondents put Le Pen ahead in the first round with 34%-36% of the vote.
