Law Minister reconsiders Rp75 million citizenship fee after criticism
The fee schedule in PP 30/2026 is still set to take effect Aug. 1, even as Kementerian Hukum opens an internal review.
Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas is reviewing the increase in citizenship service fees after the policy drew public criticism. The evaluation will be discussed at an internal meeting with Direktorat Jenderal Administrasi Hukum Umum and Direktorat Jenderal Kekayaan Intelektual. Under PP Nomor 30 Tahun 2026, signed by President Prabowo Subianto on 2 Juli 2026, the fee for foreign nationals becoming WNI is set at Rp75 juta, naturalization through marriage at Rp25 juta, and an application for a decision letter on loss of citizenship at a person's own request at Rp5 juta. The rule is scheduled to take effect on 1 Agustus 2026. Supratman said the fee adjustment was originally designed to support digital transformation, improve service quality, and adapt to economic conditions.
