LA Lakers set record with $12.5 billion sale to Kushner, Iger

What's next: The deal still needs NBA Board of Governors approval, with the next board meeting scheduled for September in New York.

The Los Angeles Lakers are being sold to Josh Kushner and former Disney chief executive Bob Iger for a reported $12.5 billion, a price that would set a record for the sale of a sports franchise. The deal would transfer control of one of the NBA's most recognizable teams less than a year after Mark Walter became majority owner in October 2025. Antara reported the sale is not yet final and still requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors. The next board meeting is scheduled for September in New York. The Lakers have won 17 NBA championships, one behind the Boston Celtics' record 18. Jerry Buss bought the team in 1979 as part of a $67.5 million package that also included the Los Angeles Kings and the Kia Forum.
