Kyle Kirkwood won the Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday as IndyCar held its first professional road race through downtown Washington. The 147-lap event sent 25 drivers around a 1.7-mile, seven-turn street circuit near the National Mall, with cars reaching roughly 190 mph past landmarks including the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Before the start, Donald Trump and Melania Trump rode a ceremonial lap in the presidential limousine, and Trump waved the green flag. Organizers expected about 140,000 attendees for the race, which required major road closures, airspace restrictions and other security measures across the capital.
