The 250-mile IndyCar event sent 25 drivers over a 1.7-mile downtown circuit at speeds nearing 190 mph, with the route running past the National Mall, Pennsylvania Avenue and the U.S. Capitol. Organizers said attendance could reach about 140,000 to 200,000, with many free tickets distributed by lottery. The race also brought major road closures, a temporary airspace shutdown over Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and military flyovers, underscoring the scale of the city’s security and logistics effort.
