Clash in Jila, Mimika kills 1 TNI soldier
Two other soldiers were wounded, and authorities are still evacuating the victims while probing a group believed led by Pemne Kogoya.
A clash between TNI soldiers and an armed criminal group broke out in Jila, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on Monday (17/8), killing one soldier and injuring two others. Tri Purwanto, spokesman for Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, said the victims came from a confrontation between personnel at Posramil Jila Kodim 1710/Mimika and Pos Satgas Pam Obvit Yonif 133/YS against the KKB from Kodap III Ndugama. The armed group was said to be led by Pemne Kogoya. By Monday afternoon, the evacuation of the victims was still under way. Authorities also tightened security and monitored conditions in Jila to prevent further disturbances, while TNI and Polri continued investigating the sequence of events.
