US officials later confirmed that four Americans were among the dead. Rescue and recovery teams faced difficult terrain and a fire at the site, with drones used to assess the area. Luxury travel company &Beyond said the aircraft was carrying its guests. Kenyan aviation and transport authorities are investigating the cause.
