Kennedy Center set Trump naming push after Sept. 8 in court filing
What's new: A filing detailed a 23-3 board vote to close the center for two years under a $285 million renovation plan.
The Kennedy Center told a federal court it will not try to add President Donald Trump’s name to the building before Sept. 8, while laying out a broader plan to rename parts of the arts complex during a major renovation. Court filings show the board also approved a two-year shutdown, 23-3, under a roughly $285 million overhaul. The proposal would add wording crediting Trump for restoring and renovating the center, and would rename the grounds President Donald J. Trump Plaza. Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex-officio board member, is challenging the moves in court and asked Judge Christopher R. Cooper to rule before Sept. 8. The center also defended scaffolding and a tarp over the facade as part of construction and protection for the marble exterior.
