Kennedy Center keeps doors open for now, halts new programming

What's next: the board is set to review three renovation options in mid-July, from a full shutdown to phased closures.

The Kennedy Center will remain open to the public for now, but management has not scheduled additional programming as it weighs whether to close all or part of the Washington performing arts complex for renovations. In a Friday court filing, executive director Matt Floca said the board will consider three options in mid-July: a full closure with no public programming, a partial closure that preserves limited access, or phased closures focused on urgent infrastructure work. The filing came after U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper blocked a planned July 6 shutdown and ruled the board had failed in its duties by backing what he called an ill-informed plan.
