Kennedy Center delays Trump facade signage until Sept. 8 in court filing

What's next: A federal judge could rule before Sept. 8 as Rep. Joyce Beatty challenges plans to rename parts of the arts complex.

The Kennedy Center told a federal court it will not try to place President Donald Trump’s name on the building facade before Sept. 8, as a lawsuit over the changes continues in Washington. In a status report filed Tuesday, the center said proposed signage would read “The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump,” with an added line about the Trump Kennedy Center Fund if donations reach $100 million. The filing also said the board wants to rename the grounds “President Donald J. Trump Plaza.” Rep. Joyce Beatty’s lawyers urged Judge Christopher R. Cooper to act before Sept. 8 and disputed the center’s claim that scaffolding and a tarp are needed for renovation work.
