Kemlu probes alleged trafficking of WNI in Jeju with Korea police
KBRI Seoul says the report appears tied to a visa-service scam by brokers, while the WNI victim status remains unconfirmed.
The Foreign Ministry, through KBRI Seoul, is coordinating with South Korean authorities to investigate alleged human trafficking involving WNI in Jeju. The move followed a post by the @kioyyx_ account on social media that mentioned WNI in Seogwipo who were allegedly victims, with fellow WNI said to have arranged their departure.
Heni Hamidah, director for protection of WNI at Kemlu, said the initial indication points more to a visa-processing fraud by a broker syndicate, a case that was said to have been reported since June 2026. KBRI Seoul is now working closely with Jeju Police and the South Korean Foreign Ministry to obtain official information and confirm whether there are any WNI victims.
In Indonesia, Dittipi PPA-PPO Bareskrim Polri is also tracing the circulating information. Police said, however, they have not yet received an official report through the complaint channel.
