Kemkomdigi gives YouTube 3 days after vape promo involving children
If YouTube does not comply, it faces administrative penalties ranging from fines to access cuts.
The Ministry of Communications and Digital sent a First Warning Letter to YouTube after finding a live stream promoting electronic cigarettes that involved children. Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid called the content a serious violation of child protection principles in digital spaces. The case stems from vape promotion content by YouTube creator Muhammad Jannah, alias Bigmo, which allegedly involved minors during a live stream. In the letter, Kemkomdigi asked YouTube to review and take down the content, provide clarification, and strengthen proactive moderation, age restrictions and faster handling of similar content. YouTube has been given until no later than 3 days. If it does not comply, administrative sanctions may be imposed, ranging from written warnings and fines to temporary service suspension and access termination.
