Kemenpar promotes stay-close-to-home trips for 2026 school break

Officials are offering 95 tour packages from 40 industry players as 67.7 percent of domestic trips still stay within provinces.

The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging people to vacation at destinations close to home through the “Liburan Cara Baru #DiIndonesiaAja” campaign during the 2026 school holiday period. Ministry of Tourism spokesman Nia Niscaya said the pattern reflects the habits of domestic travelers, who more often travel within their province because costs are lower and access is easier. Kemenpar data show intra-provincial trips accounted for 67.7 percent of all domestic travel in 2025. For this year’s school holiday period, Kemenpar and industry players have prepared 95 tour packages involving 40 industry participants, covering nature, culture, adventure and marine attractions for families and students. Kemenpar is also offering the AI platform MaiA to help design trips based on needs and budget. From January-April 2026, domestic travel reached 417.06 million trips, up 1.48 percent from a year earlier.
