Health Ministry records 333,470 ARI cases from haze in 7 provinces

4,522 cases remain active daily, as air quality has turned hazardous or very unhealthy in 23 areas.

The Health Ministry recorded 333,470 cases of acute respiratory infection (ISPA) in 68 regencies/cities affected by forest and land fires from Aug. 18 to Oct. 21, 2026. Of that total, 4,522 patients were still counted as daily cases. Ten Suyanti, director of environmental health at the Health Ministry, said haze from the fires has pushed air quality to hazardous or very unhealthy levels in 23 areas across seven provinces, including Kalimantan Tengah, Sumatera Selatan, Jambi, Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Timur, Kalimantan Barat, and Riau. The ministry highlighted vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, people with asthma or COPD, and outdoor workers. Compared with last year, case trends increased in Kalimantan Tengah, Kalimantan Selatan, Sumatera Selatan, and Riau.
