Kemenimipas granted 2026 Waisak sentence reductions to 1,052 Buddhist inmates and juvenile detainees nationwide; six were freed immediately.

The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections granted special remissions and sentence reductions for the 2570 BE Waisak Day in 2026 to 1,052 inmates and juvenile detainees who are Buddhists across Indonesia. Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto said the remission was given to those who had met the administrative and substantive requirements. Of the total recipients, 1,041 people received Remisi Khusus I, six received Remisi Khusus II and were released immediately, while five juvenile detainees received Pengurangan Masa Pidana Khusus I. The largest number of recipients came from Sumatera Utara, with 186 people, followed by Kalimantan Barat with 163 and DKI Jakarta with 140. Directorate General of Corrections head Mashudi said the policy also saved Rp842,67 juta in food spending for inmates and juvenile detainees.
