Kemenhut sanctions 32 corporations over forest fires

Six companies in Kalimantan had their licenses frozen and must restore ecosystems; criminal proceedings are also possible.

The Kementerian Kehutanan has imposed administrative sanctions on 32 corporations in seven provinces over forest and land fires. Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni said the sanctions include revoking or freezing business permits and ordering ecosystem restoration. The six latest companies whose permits were frozen are in Kalimantan: PT Hasil Kalimantan Jaya, PT Taiyoung Engreen, PT Hutan Produksi Lestari, PT Ramang Agro Lestari, PT Puspa Warna Cemerlang, and PT Sinergi Hutan Sejati. The companies operate in areas including Gunung Mas, Kapuas, Pulang Pisau, and Barito Utara. Kemenhut has also opened the door to criminal proceedings, and next week the Director General of Gakkum is scheduled to meet the head of the criminal investigation agency, Kabareskrim, to coordinate case handling.
