Kemenhut detects 73 hotspots in Kalsel, 14 in PBPH areas

Fourteen of the hotspots fall inside forest concessions, prompting field checks as dry-season wildfire risk rises.

The Ministry of Forestry detected 73 hotspots in Kalimantan Selatan through the Forest and Land Fire Control Information System (SIPONGI) on 12 August 2026. Of that total, 14 hotspots were in Perizinan Berusaha Pemanfaatan Hutan areas. Head of BPHL Wilayah XI Banjarbaru Wahyu Nurhidayat said hotspots are an early warning, but do not automatically indicate a fire because they can still be temperature anomalies. The PBPH-area hotspots were spread across PT Inhutani I Unit Pelaihari, PT Dwima Intiga, PT Hutan Rindang Banua, and PT Prima Multibuana. Kemenhut has passed the information to the permit holders for field verification and initial response if flames are found, as wildfire risk rises during the dry season.
