Kemenham: Suspected KIP Kuliah irregularities threaten student rights

Students from poor families could drop out, widening inequality and eroding trust in campuses and higher education.

The Ministry of Human Rights said alleged irregularities in KIP Kuliah funds could undermine the right to education. Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance Munafrizal Manan said the impact would not be limited to financial governance or alleged corruption, but could also cause students from low-income families to lose the chance to continue their studies. He said misuse of education aid could block access to learning, trigger dropouts, widen social gaps, put pressure on the psychological condition of students and families, and erode public trust in educational institutions. Kemenham reminded universities receiving KIP Kuliah funds to manage the aid transparently and accountably so student rights remain protected.
