Kemenhaj revamps hajj services, aims to cut wait to 26 years

Hajj costs are said to fall by Rp9.4 million, while Law No. 14/2025 underpins Kemenhaj's creation and new oversight.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is speeding reforms to hajj and umrah governance after the creation of Kemenhaj under Law No. 14/2025. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf in Jakarta on Tuesday said the changes must go beyond institutional restructuring and be felt in easier services, clearer procedures, affordable costs and stronger protection for pilgrims. The government is also adjusting quota distribution by province to even out hajj waiting times, which had reached as long as 49 years, with a target of about 26 years. On financing, the government is pushing multiyear service contracts to improve procurement efficiency and allow earlier service preparation. In the results presented, hajj costs were recorded as down by Rp9.4 million from the previous period.
