Two-Month Dry Spell Forces Gurabunga Residents to Walk 1 Km for Water
In Tidore’s mountain area, residents now depend on the Ake Goa spring for drinking, bathing and washing as supplies run low.
Residents of Gurabunga, Tidore Kepulauan City, North Maluku, are struggling to get clean water after a dry spell lasting about two months. In the mountain area, the water supply they usually use has dwindled, so they now rely on the still-available Ake Goa spring.
To meet daily needs, residents must walk about one kilometer while carrying jerry cans to the water source. The water is used for drinking, bathing, washing clothes and other household needs. Photos published on Sunday, 9 August 2026, showed residents lining up to collect water and washing around the Ake Goa spring.
