Keiko Fujimori was sworn in Tuesday as Peru's president after winning June's runoff by fewer than 50,000 votes, taking charge of a country that has cycled through nearly a decade of political turmoil. The conservative leader, 51, became Peru's first elected female head of state and the country's ninth or 10th president since 2016, depending on how interim leaders are counted in local tallies. Fujimori has promised tougher anti-crime measures, including temporary military-led security operations in hard-hit areas, and named Elmer Cuba economy minister and Carlos Espa foreign minister. Her Popular Force party and allies are set to control half the Senate, giving her a stronger base in a fragmented Congress.
