Ogan Ilir and Banyuasin land fires still smoking, 4 helicopters deployed

BMKG recorded 5,019 forest and land fire hot spots across Indonesia from January-July 2026, signaling wider dry-season risk.

Joint teams are still battling forest and land fires in Rantau Bayur, Banyuasin Regency, and Pemulutan and North Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, because flames in several locations are still giving off smoke. The South Sumatra BPBD has deployed four water-bombing helicopters for aerial operations, while BPBD personnel, the TNI, Polri, and Manggala Agni are handling the fires from the ground. Sudirman, head of emergency response at the South Sumatra BPBD, said in Rantau Bayur that three helicopters had dropped water 147 times over the burned area of about 2-3 hectares. In Pemulutan, helicopters carried out 52 water drops over land covering about 5-7 hectares. So far, firefighting efforts have brought about four hectares under control, and monitoring continues to prevent new fire points.
