Karangetang erupts, glowing lava hurled up to 400 meters

Glowing material ignited grass near the crater, while lava flows were observed reaching 700 meters to the northwest.

Mount Karangetang on Siau Island, in Sitaro Islands district, North Sulawesi, erupted on Sunday night around 19.14-19.20 Wita. The Karangetang Volcano Observation Post recorded an explosive eruption from Crater II, accompanied by the ejection or spray of glowing material. CNN Indonesia reported the height of the glowing lava ejection at around 400 meters, with the runout reaching 700 meters to the northwest. According to an Antara report, the glowing material also burned grass around the crater, making the flames appear larger as they reflected off clouds. Officials are still monitoring the possibility of glowing lava flows. Residents around the mountain slopes have been told to remain alert and follow instructions from officials if volcanic activity increases.
