Tanzanian vessel seized in Bengkalis with 1.6 tons of liquid meth
Officials suspect the ship used a false identity, MV Rain Maker, and is now under inspection at Karimun Customs Port.
A joint team from BNN, Bea Cukai, and Polda Kepulauan Riau seized the MV Ocean Porter in waters off Tanjung Parit, Bengkalis, Riau, on 17 Agustus at 18.00 WIB. BNN chief Suyudi Ario Seto said the Tanzania-flagged vessel was suspected of carrying narcotics and was then taken to Pangkalan Bea Cukai Karimun Port for inspection. Using K9 units, backscatter, Trunarc, and narcotest, officers found a liquid believed to be methamphetamine weighing about 1.6 tons. BNN also suspects the vessel used a false identity, with the name MV Rain Maker changed to MV Ocean Porter. The case adds to a series of narcotics smuggling busts by sea in the Riau border area.
