Kampung Ambon home renovation starts Nov. 10 to curb drugs
The Cengkareng project is due to finish Dec. 24 and will pair housing upgrades with access to business capital for low-income residents.
The government is preparing a home renovation program in Kampung Ambon, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, as part of a social overhaul to curb drug problems. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait, and the Metro Jaya Police chief inspected one resident's house on Saturday, including the home of Ester Yacoba, 64. The Ministry of PKP aims to start work on 10 November and finish on 24 December. Tito said poverty is one of the root causes of drug problems, so the housing repairs will be paired with economic empowerment. The program is also linked to PT Permodalan Nasional Madani so low-income residents can access business capital.
