Thick haze from forest and land fires in Kalimantan Selatan disrupted flights and school activities in Banjarbaru. At Syamsudin Noor International Airport in Banjarmasin, at least 12 flights were affected as visibility dropped. In Liang Anggang, residents reported smoke entering homes and visibility at several points shrinking to about 3 meters. BMKG recorded PM2.5 concentrations in Banjarbaru on Wednesday (19/8) at 389.4 micrograms per cubic meter, well above the hazardous threshold of 250.5 micrograms per cubic meter. Starting Thursday (20/8), the Banjarbaru Education Office pushed school start times to 09.00 Wita for affected schools. Antara reported that extreme heat and strong winds also worsened the spread of the fires.
