Jusuf Kalla urges Muslim nations to use talks to ease Mideast

JK said the OIC and Arab states need to actively block further escalation, including in Yaman and Palestina.

Jusuf Kalla called on Muslim countries to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to ease conflicts that have flared again in the Middle East. Speaking on the sidelines of the VIII Indonesian Muslim Congress in South Jakarta on Sunday, the 10th and 12th vice president of RI said he regretted the region’s worsening situation after hopes briefly rose from the agreement between Iran and the United States. JK said Arab countries should play a greater role in reconciling the parties in conflict and preventing open war. He also pointed to the conflict in Yaman, including tensions between the Houthi group and the Yaman government, and urged outside parties not to widen the conflict to other countries. JK said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has an important role in strengthening unity among Muslim countries and pushing for a peaceful resolution, while Indonesia remains consistent in supporting peace in Palestina and the Middle East.
