Judge extends block on tree cutting at Trump D.C. golf project

What's next: The government must give 10 business days' notice before any irreversible changes as litigation over the public course continues.

A federal judge temporarily barred the Trump administration from removing or damaging more trees at East Potomac Golf Course in Washington, extending a court fight over plans to remake the century-old public course. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes ordered the government to provide 10 business days' written notice before any irreparable changes to the park while the lawsuit proceeds. Reyes wrote that more than 500 healthy, non-hazardous trees had already been felled with little notice. The challenge was brought by the DC Preservation League and two golfers, who argue the renovation would cause lasting damage to one of the capital's few affordable golf venues. Trump has said the site will still close Nov. 15 for a 15-month overhaul and pledged an appeal.
