Judge ends Proud Boys Jan. 6 case after Trump clemency erased convictions
What's next: A separate bid to wipe out Oath Keepers seditious conspiracy convictions still awaits a judge's ruling.
A federal judge on Friday dismissed the remaining Proud Boys Jan. 6 case after President Donald Trump's broad clemency and the Justice Department's push to abandon the prosecution. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly threw out the case with prejudice against Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl and Dominic Pezzola, writing that the court had no authority to force prosecutors to continue. Kelly said his order should not be read as agreement with the decision, describing the Capitol attack as a serious assault on the peaceful transfer of power. Enrique Tarrio, convicted at the same trial, had already received a pardon, while the four others had their sentences commuted. A separate request to erase Oath Keepers convictions has not yet been decided.
