Japan forced Netherlands to a 2-2 draw in the opening Group F match of the 2026 World Cup at Dallas Stadium on Monday (15/6/2026) in the early hours of WIB. Netherlands led twice, but Japan twice leveled and snatched a point through Daichi Kamada's goal in the 89th minute. Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring for Oranje early in the second half, before Keito Nakamura responded for Japan. Crysencio Summerville restored Netherlands' lead in the 64th minute before Kamada sealed the result. Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu said he was disappointed his team did not win, but praised the players' fighting spirit after they came back twice from behind. The result keeps Group F wide open and ends Netherlands' World Cup opening-match winning streak that had stood since 1994.
