Jember launches Homecare; Health Ministry prepares national trial

The door-to-door model for low-income residents, the elderly, high-risk pregnant women and stunted toddlers will be reviewed in 2-3 months.

Jember Regency launched its Homecare program to reach vulnerable residents who have difficulty getting to community health centers and hospitals. The program, opened at Sumber Baru Community Health Center on 24 July, targets low-income people, patients with chronic illnesses, the elderly, people with disabilities, high-risk pregnant women and children with stunting. Deputy Health Minister Benjamin Paulus Octavianus described the scheme as the first in Indonesia with comprehensive operations and said it could become a national pilot project. The Health Ministry plans to invite Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait and the Health Office to Jakarta in 2-3 months to review technical implementation, support needs and the budget formula. In Jelbuk, health workers have already begun visiting remote villages such as Sucopangepok to examine postpartum mothers and stunted toddlers.
