Jakarta to Turn Off Lights for 60 Minutes Saturday Night to Cut Emissions

The 20:30-21:30 WIB blackout will cover main roads, government buildings and city landmarks; April's action saved 96.91 MWh.

The DKI Jakarta provincial government will switch off lights for 60 minutes on Saturday (13/6) from 20:30-21:30 WIB as part of energy-saving efforts and carbon emissions reduction for World Environment Day 2026. The blackout will cover protocol and arterial roads in five areas, DKI Jakarta government office buildings, and a number of commercial properties. City landmarks to be darkened include Monumen Nasional, Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Patung Arjuna Wiwaha, Patung Pemuda, Patung Jenderal Sudirman, and the Balai Kota area. DKI Jakarta Environment Agency head Dudi Gardesi said the step follows Governor Instruction No. 14 of 2021. In a similar action on 25 April 2026, Jakarta recorded electricity savings of 96.91 MWh, cost efficiencies of Rp140.2 million, and emissions reductions of 77.53 tons of CO2e.
