Jakarta explores cultural, transport ties with Tokyo

Jakarta wants to learn museum management, water transport to Kepulauan Seribu, and the use of hydrogen and electric buses.

The DKI Jakarta provincial government is exploring stronger cooperation with the Tokyo government in culture and transportation during a meeting between DKI Deputy Governor Rano Karno and Tokyo Deputy Governor Tomohide Sato at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Tuesday. The discussion covered preservation of historic districts, museum management, support for creative communities, water transport, and the use of environmentally friendly buses. Jakarta wants to study Tokyo's experience managing areas such as Asakusa and Kagurazaka, while opening exchanges of knowledge among museum operators. In transportation, Jakarta highlighted water connectivity to Kepulauan Seribu and wants to learn a model of service that is safe, affordable and integrated. Jakarta also sees Tokyo's experience with hydrogen buses and electric buses as a reference for public transport needs in the capital.
