Jakarta cannot seed rain as convective clouds are absent

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government cannot yet carry out a weather modification operation to trigger rain during the dry season because the needed clouds have not formed. Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said he has repeatedly ordered BPBD DKI Jakarta to prepare the operation, but seeding cannot begin as long as there are no convective clouds. In Jakarta, weather modification is usually used to push rain out to sea, while this time it is intended to make rain fall over land. BMKG explained that weather modification is done by seeding sodium chloride into cloud clusters using a special aircraft. At the same time, BMKG said El Nino 2026 is already active and could reach a very strong level, meaning the dry season is expected to be drier and longer in many parts of Indonesia.
