Jakarta air ranks sixth worst in world, morning AQI at 156
The air remained unhealthy as Pemprov DKI moved to expand Transjabodetabek and aims to put 10,000 Transjakarta electric buses on the road by 2030.
Jakarta's air quality on Thursday morning ranked sixth worst in the world, according to IQAir data at 06.00 WIB. The air quality index, or AQI, was recorded at 156, in the unhealthy category, prompting residents to wear masks when outside. In the same list, the worst reading was in Uganda at 209, followed by Kuching in Malaysia at 176 and Lahore in Pakistan at 173. Pemprov DKI Jakarta is preparing three steps to curb pollution, including expanding Transjabodetabek services such as the Blok M-Alam Sutera, Blok M-PIK 2, and the planned Blok M-Bandara Soekarno Hatta route. Governor Pramono Anung said the transportation sector accounts for 50 percent of Jakarta's exhaust emissions and set a target of 10,000 Transjakarta electric buses operating by 2030.
