Iran pauses reprisals after Trump halts US airstrikes for 2 days

What's new: Tehran signaled it will resume attacks if Washington restarts bombing, even as the White House leaves room for talks.

Iran has held off attacks for two days after President Donald Trump suspended nightly US airstrikes on July 24, opening a narrow pause in the two-week conflict. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran's position remains “attack for attack,” meaning it will keep holding fire only as long as the United States does the same. The Pentagon had carried out 13 consecutive nights of strikes that Washington cast as retaliation for Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said Trump paused the campaign to give diplomacy more room. Reuters also cited reports that some Trump advisers worried US missile defense stocks were being depleted while protecting bases in the region.
