Incentives for 230,000 madrasah contract teachers rise to Rp1 million a month

The higher payment is tied to a Rp4.6 trillion addition in the 2027 Ministry of Religious Affairs budget, up from Rp250,000.

Commission VIII of the DPR is pushing to raise incentives for more than 230,000 non-ASN contract madrasah teachers in Indonesia to around Rp1 million per month, far above the previous Rp250,000 scheme. The increase is backed by a proposed Rp4.6 trillion budget for the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the 2027 indicative ceiling, approved to support honoraria for contract madrasah teachers. In earlier talks, Rp1.5 million had also been discussed, but the final amount most likely falls in the Rp1 million to Rp1.5 million range. Deputy Speaker of Commission VIII Abdul Wachid outlined the scheme during a working visit to the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Central Java in Semarang, while Ansory Siregar in Banda Aceh said the extra incentive is needed because the teachers were not ultimately appointed as PPPK.
