Indonesia to require 1% SAF at 2 international airports in 2027

The initial mandate will cover only international flights from Soekarno-Hatta and Ngurah Rai while domestic supply is readied.

The government will begin requiring 1% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in 2027 for international flights departing from Soekarno-Hatta Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said the move is the first stage of national aviation decarbonization and the development of low-emission airports. According to AHY, the government is also preparing a domestic SAF supply chain from upstream to downstream to avoid dependence on imports. The fuel must meet the quality and sustainability standards set by ICAO. The policy was discussed in a ministerial coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, 25 June 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen governance of the airport ecosystem.
