Indonesia pushes stronger ASEAN-U.S. partnership in Manila

The U.S. is preparing US$2,5 billion in investment for security, infrastructure, technology, energy and transnational crime efforts.

Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono urged stronger ASEAN-United States ties at the annual meeting of foreign ministers in Manila, Philippines, on Wednesday (22/7), stressing the need for policy certainty and continuity in cooperation. He said the relationship is important to protect security, maritime stability, trade, supply chain resilience and access to markets for strategic commodities. Sugiono also called for closer collaboration to fight cross-border crime, especially online scams, amid growing digital connectivity. At the same forum, U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN Kevin Kim said Washington wants to be part of Southeast Asia's growth. He said the U.S. is preparing US$2,5 billion in investment for security cooperation, strategic infrastructure, technology, energy security and efforts to address transnational crime.
