Indonesia rises to No. 2 in Muslim-friendly travel ranking
Indonesia's score rose three points to 79, matching Arab Saudi and Turki, while Malaysia stayed first at 83.
Indonesia rose from fifth place to second in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2026, a ranking of Muslim-friendly destinations by Mastercard-CrescentRating. The result places Indonesia just behind Malaysia and level with Arab Saudi and Turki at a score of 79. Malaysia remained in first place with 83. Tourism Ministry Secretary Bayu Aji called the three-place jump a push to aim for the top spot next year. CrescentRating HalalTrip founder and CEO Fazal Bahardeen said Indonesia continues to strengthen as a multicultural destination for Muslim travelers. In the same awards, Jawa Barat won the title of “Most Promosing Muslim-Friendly Region of the Year”.
