Indonesia builds local AI base with chips, GPUs and talent

Indonesia is preparing the foundation for artificial intelligence self-reliance by building an ecosystem that includes local AI models, computing infrastructure and stronger digital talent. Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Nezar Patria said mastery of AI is no longer only about innovation, but also about a country's strategic position in the global technology supply chain. He said the foundation must be built comprehensively, from electricity, water, GPUs and chips to platforms and applications. Nezar said Indonesia has digital talent that can compete if given access to AI infrastructure and technical knowledge. He also highlighted Indonesia's critical mineral reserves as an important asset for the AI and semiconductor industries, which need to be secured to strengthen the country's bargaining position.
